The Statuary and The Festival of New Trumpet Music (FONT) have come together to celebrate one of the leading voices shaping the sound of the modern trumpet, master trumpeter and educator William B. Fielder. Having had early onset glaucoma, his burgeoning performing career was cut short, shifting his focus to teaching and mentoring generations of students. Fielder taught many of the premier modern voices of the trumpet in the last several decades such as: Wynton Marsalis, Terrance Blanchard, Sean Jones, as well as the three featured artists of this event, Statuary Artistic Director Ted Chubb, educator and visionary producer Lee Hogans, and one of the most acclaimed trumpeters of his time, Terell Stafford. William Fielder’s concept of sound and flow, philosophy of positivity and creativity, while striving toward the unknown, align naturally with the principles of the FONT Music festival.
